Our Event Experience and Lead Team:
Prior to purchasing Colby Hill Inn on February 2, 2016, Chef Proprietor, Bruce R. Barnes had most recently served for 8 years as the Senior Executive Chef at the World Bank in Washington, D.C., where he oversaw a culinary team of over 200 and executed events serving up to 6,000 guests who included heads of state — he is particularly fond of having cooked for His Royal Highness Prince William! Previously, he oversaw catering for events at the National Museum of the American Indian and the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.
Bruce’s husband, Chief INNovation Officer, Jefferson Brechbühl oversaw special events as board Special Events Chair of the Mount Pleasant Main Street organization in Washington, D.C. for five years (these events included annual street fairs for up to 10,000 visitors, outdoor movies, fundraising dinners, an annual dog show, seasonal festivals and more). As owner of his People Garden Community Health Market, he directed event catering (including weddings). At the Points of Light Foundation, he coordinated national conference events track; and as Operations Director at Martha’s Table he regularly oversaw events to feed and provide services to the homeless of Washington, D.C. He also coordinated with the White House security team for two presidential visits. He is currently enrolled in a Wedding Planning Management Certificate program at NH Technical Institute and has been the lead planner and contact for over 90 weddings and another 50 large special events here at Colby Hill Inn. Jefferson oversees all contract and catering planning as well as the detailing of the events for your wedding. He will lead our team, leading up to and the day of your wedding, in executing your wedding to our very best. He will also drive forward our property, event inventory, and overall business in an effort of continual improvement.
Our in-house EVENT DESIGNER, Lisa Spahl, earned a BA in Fine Arts. A love of nature and design led her to work as a floral designer. Over the years, she has explored crafting with a variety of materials to develop more elaborate event presentations. Pulling inspirations from her gardens and foraging in the woods and fields, gives a fresh, unique approach to her designs. -“To make the ordinary, extraordinary. To create a unique space to celebrate an event is my goal. To help make your special day the most memorable it can be!” – Lisa will bring together your full floral design and other elements to personalize your preferred choice of our Four Design Themes. For couples who contract for our Destination Wedding Package, she will work with you to enhance the grounds, select focus areas for embellishment, introduce signature pieces, make fabulous style choices and incorporate select personal items.
Guest Services Captain. Amanda Thomsen will ensure that your vendors are taken care of on the day of your wedding. Amanda will oversee staff directing traffic and she will be the key person to make sure that your guests receive a warm welcome and are orientated towards your ceremony. On your wedding day, Amanda will check in on the couple regularly, communicate with your vendors and help organize the bridal party just before walking down the aisle. Amanda has a broad background in entertainment venues, bar and restaurant service, and start-up restaurant management.
Our barn is permitted for events up to 130 guests. The barn space includes a bar area, fortified dance floor, elevated band stand/dj booth (which can also serve as a lounge) and two bathrooms.
